The All Sümi Students’ Union (SKK) has cautioned government employees posted in Sümi inhabited areas against absenteeism and directed them to report to their assigned stations and carry out their duties responsibly.
In a press release issued by SKK president Hipito Achumi and general secretary P. Samuel Chophy, the union stated that the matter was discussed during its first executive meeting. The meeting reaffirmed the union’s commitment to ensuring that government officials serve sincerely in the areas where they are posted.
The union maintained that effective governance and meaningful development can only take place when officials perform their duties with integrity, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility. It stressed that holding public office carries an obligation to serve the people and should not be treated as a matter of personal convenience.
Expressing concern over the absence of some officers and staff from their duty stations without valid reasons, SKK said such practices severely affect the functioning of government institutions. It pointed out that absenteeism disrupts essential public services, delays administrative processes and slows down developmental activities, ultimately causing hardship to the public.
The union has therefore directed all heads of departments and government employees posted in Sümi inhabited areas to immediately report to their respective stations and ensure that official duties are carried out properly.
