State Cabinet nod for Meluri as new district for Pochury tribe

In an important development, the state cabinet on Wednesday approved bifurcation of Phek district to make Meluri sub-division a new district for the Pochury community.


The decision will address a longstanding demand of the Pochury people for administrative autonomy to better represent their interests.


Disclosing this to the media after the cabinet meeting, Power and Parliamentary Affairs minister and state government spokesperson KG Kenye mentioned that the new district would soon become a reality, fulfilling a vital desire of the Pochury community.
He claimed that the decision reflected the state government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions of Nagaland.


NPF welcomes decision
Naga People’s Front (NPF) has lauded and welcomed the decision of the chief minister Neiphiu Rio and his cabinet colleagues for giving recognition to Meluri district.
NPF through its press bureau said that the decision reflected a significant milestone in the journey of the Pochury people and stood as proof of the visionary leadership that upholds the aspirations and identity of the people.


The party also appreciated MLA of 20 Meluri assembly constituency, Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, who worked consistently for his people and achieved this milestone.
Congratulating the Pochury community, the NPF said today they would be celebrating the historic achievement, embracing the spirit of unity and faith in a brighter future.


Further, NPF extended appreciation to the Chakhesang community under the guardianship of the Chakhhesang Public Organisation, for showing magnanimity and steadfast support in this journey of hope.


Meanwhile, Naga People’s Front acknowledged the commitment of all involved in realising this goal. It expressed hope that this new chapter for Meluri district usher in prosperity, growth, and lasting peace to its people.
