Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) chairperson Justice Songkhupchung Serto and his team visited the Chümoukedima police station on Saturday following the tragic suicide of a 19-year-old boy inside Chümoukedima PS on October 3.
Justice Serto and his team held an extensive inquiry session with the officials and staff who were on duty during the unfortunate incident.
Following the inquiry, they proceeded to inspect the lock-up area where the young man had committed suicide.
Additionally, the team collected crucial footage and data necessary for further examination.
During the interaction with the police station’s officers and staff, the Human Rights Commission chairperson emphasised vigilance and the implementation of a roster system to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
He also stressed proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in custody.
Commissioner of Police Kevithuto Sophie, DCP KM Munesh and ACP Ninoto Zhimomi were alos present during the inspection.
