Nagaland State Human Rights Commission team visits Tizit for awareness programme

Chairman of Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC), Justice Songkhupchung Serto, accompanied by commission member, R. Nzanbemo Lotha, visited Tizit on November 17 and held an awareness programme with officials of various government departments and stakeholders at the ADC’s conference hall.
The programme was chaired by ADC Tizit, Relise Sangtam.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Serto highlighted the formation and mandate of the Commission, stating that it was empowered as a Civil Court and that its justice delivery process is simple and free of cost.
He emphasised that the Commission intervenes when the State fails to uphold or violates the rights of its citizens.
Citing examples of cases taken up by the Commission, he stressed that when basic rights such as health, education, and food are adequately provided, people are better positioned to thrive. He reiterated that the primary duty of the State is to protect and provide for its people.
R. Nzanbemo Lotha also briefed the gathering on the role and purpose of the Commission’s visit.
During their visit, the NSHRC team interacted with officials from various in-line departments and representatives of different organisations. They also visited the Community Health Centre, Government Higher Secondary School, and the Police Station in Tizit.
