Nagaland ‘Statehood Day’ celebrated across India

As Nagaland celebrates its 61st “Statehood Day”, the day was celebrated in other parts of the country like New Delhi, Uttarakhand, Bihar and West Bengal on December 1.


New Delhi: The 61st “Statehood Day” of Nagaland was celebrated at Raj Niwas, New Delhi with Lt. Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena and Sangita Saxena hosting the celebration as part of prime minister Narendra Modi’s initiative under ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.


Lt. Governor of Delhi greeted the people of Nagaland on the momentous occasion at the function which was attended by senior government officials from the State, students and Naga community living in the capital. He also assured to look into any matters faced by the people from the State living in the capital.


Chief Resident Commissioner, Nagaland House New Delhi, Jyoti Kalash, invited everyone to visit the Hornbill Festival which began on December 1 at Kisama, Kohima stating that it is a must experience, unique festival which has gained international repute.


A cultural dance was performed by Lotha Cultural Troupe and the Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union, New Delhi presented a folk song during the programme.


Meanwhile, the 61st “Statehood Day” of Nagaland was celebrated at Nagaland House, 29- Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi with Chief Resident Commissioner, New Delhi and Additional Chief Secretary Nagaland, Jyoti Kalash as the chief guest with the officers and staff of Nagaland House joining in the celebration. He stated that the State has come a long way, with the State now linked to all the major cities in the country through railways and airways.


Bihar: The members of Nagaland Medical Students’ Union Bihar attended the 61st Nagaland “Statehood Day” celebration at Raj Bhavan, Patna, Bihar upon the invitation of the Governor of Bihar Rajendra Vishnwanath Arlekar. The governor in his speech stressed upon the importance of igniting the sense of oneness amongst them and on “ek bharat shresth bharat”. Speaking on behalf of the students and Nagas, senior resident NMCH Patna, Dr. Nyemwang Konyak highlighted that they all have to embrace each other despite their many differences.


Uttarakhand: On 61st “Statehood Day” of Nagaland, Governor of Uttarakhand Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.) invited members of the Naga community living in Dehradun to the Raj Bhavan, Dehradun.


Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.) met with members of the Dehradun Naga community including Naga students studying in Dehradun as well as elders working in Dehradun. The Governor in his speech recounted his days in the army with Naga soldiers and expressed his profound admiration for the beauty and simplicity of the Naga culture and values. He called upon members of the Dehradun Naga community to embrace a spirit of unity and oneness with the whole country and to be good ambassadors of Naga culture and values.


West Bengal: The Raj Bhavan, West Bengal organised a programme commemorating the “Statehood Day” of Nagaland attended by staff of Nagaland House and other Naga residents of Kolkata. The Governor of West Bengal Dr. CV Ananda Bose addressed the gathering. DRC Kolkata, Renbeni Ngullie, delivered a speech on the history and culture of Nagaland. A Sangtam traditional folk song was also presented by the pastor of NCFK and his team.
