In a significant step towards child protection, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Tseminyu, launched Nagaland’s first “My Safety Box” initiative on November 14, coinciding with Children’s Day celebrations. The flagship pilot was inaugurated at Jireh School by Ar. Jwenga Seb, MLA, and Japheth Woch, Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu.
Speaking at the launch, DC Japheth Woch informed that the initiative was pioneered by Neivotuonuo Rutsa, Legal-cum-Probation Officer, DCPU Tseminyu, with the vision of shifting from post-incident responses to preventive child safety measures.
Neivotuonuo Rutsa explained that “My Safety Box” is a proactive, prevention-focused approach designed to enable real-time monitoring of children’s well-being.
With rising cases of bullying, abuse, and mental stress, the initiative offers children a safe, anonymous, and accessible platform to report issues such as bullying, sexual abuse, discrimination, neglect, or mistreatment without fear or shame.
The pilot model has been introduced in over ten schools in its first phase, with plans for expansion based on its effectiveness. Quarterly reviews will be conducted by DCPU using data compiled through the Child Helpline, enhancing early risk identification and timely intervention.
DCPU Tseminyu described the initiative as a special Children’s Day gift, setting a new benchmark in child protection by fostering a system that listens, detects, and protects before harm occurs.
