Despite umpteen efforts being made to make Nagaland free of plastics, especially during the festival season, these did not seem to be moving in the right direction as usage of plastics, especially during the night carnival, was seen all around the State capital.
Admitting the huge usage of plastics, Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) president Medozhatuo Rutsa said the traders’ body was doing its best to control use of plastic bags and bottles.
He claimed that repeated announcements were being made through the public address system, appealing to the vendors to follow rules.
He added that on the evening of the second day KCCI volunteers checked every single stall for finding use of plastics and to serve warnings to vendors found defaulting that they would be penalised.
Rutsa said KCCI’s appeal to stop using plastics received good response from food stall owners as they had dispensed with using plastic plates and cups. For convenience of visitors and citizens, Rutsa said KCCI was also providing paper bags through its office.
