Amid growing healthcare needs, the Seyochung Village Students’ Union (SVSU) has raised concerns over the inadequate healthcare services provided by the Health and Wellness Centre at Seyochung village and appealed the Chief Medical Officer Kiphire for upgrading the Health and Wellness Centre to a Primary Health Centre (PHC), which would significantly improve healthcare delivery for the village.
In a letter to the Chief Medical Officer Kiphire countersigned by SVSU president Pilongla Sangtam and general secretary Thingzila Y Sangtam informed that during a recent assessment on September 30, the union observed several challenges affecting the quality of care for the local community.
It further informed that the centre currently operates with only one Community Health Officer (CHO) and one Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), which the union stated was insufficient to meet the healthcare demands of the village. The CHO also reported a shortage of essential medical instruments and first aid kits, with supplies from the relevant office proving inadequate for daily needs.
Seyochung Village, which has the largest population under the Seyochung ADC headquarters, surpassing even Seyochung Town, continues to face limited medical support despite its growing population. The SVSU hoped that authorities will address the issue promptly to enhance the village’s healthcare infrastructure for the well-being of its residents.
