Nagaland tension grips Longleng after 2 killed in road mishap

LONGLENG, OCT 25 (NPN)

Tension ran high in Longleng town on Saturday after two persons were killed on the spot in a suspected hit-and-run near Pongo village under Longleng district around 10 a.m.
According to reports, the victims, both residents of Auching village, were travelling towards Longleng after visiting their families when a convoy, reportedly belonging to the Assam Rifles and en route to Jorhat from Tuensang, allegedly rammed into their motorcycle.
Following the incident, enraged locals intercepted the convoy in Longleng town, demanding that the driver and vehicle involved be handed over. Upon the alleged refusal by the Assam Rifles personnel, an irate crowd reportedly damaged several vehicles belonging to the force.
District administration officials, police, and representatives from tribal bodies rushed to the site to defuse the tense situation and restore order. Officials said an inquiry has been initiated, while AR officials could not be reached for comment.
