Tangshang Naga Students’ Union (TNSU) has strongly condemned the recent armed clashes between NSCN-K/YA and NSCN-K/AM in the Pangsaung and Nanyun areas of the Naga Self-Administered Zone. The incidents include the clash on January 9, 2026, at Khammatine Village and the retaliatory clash on January 12, 2026, between Taka and Nampha, which resulted in casualties among Naga brothers.
In a press release, TNSU expressed deep concern over the ongoing suffering of Nagas in Myanmar following the military junta’s coup. The union highlighted that continuous conflict, fear, economic hardship, and forced conscription have inflicted severe mental trauma on Naga youths in the eastern region. At this critical juncture, internal fighting among Naga brothers only worsens the community’s plight.
The Union also voiced particular alarm as students prepare for promotion and final examinations, describing this as the most vital phase of their academic journey. It warned that ongoing violence, displacement, and insecurity disrupt education, shatter concentration, and jeopardize the future of Naga students who seek learning, dignity, and peace amid Myanmar’s political turmoil.
TNSU emphasized that fratricidal violence serves no purpose and only erodes Naga unity. It neither advances the Naga cause nor protects the people; instead, it traumatizes youths and endangers innocent civilians.
The union appealed earnestly to the leaderships of both NSCN-K/YA and NSCN-K/AM to immediately cease infighting and resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means.
Additionally, TNSU urged Naga elders, church leaders, civil society organizations, and all stakeholders to intervene urgently and restore peace and unity.
TNSU reaffirmed its steadfast support for Naga students, peace, and future generations, asserting that the aspirations of Naga youths must not be sacrificed to internal conflict.
