Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, has announced that the state government was planning to declare Nagaland as an ‘organic state’ and also mulling to launch the organic mission soon.
The chief minister disclosed this while gracing the launching of livestock programme (village economic development) organized by Northern Angami Chükehie Society at Legacy Complex here on Tuesday.
Appreciating the society’s initiative to uplift the rural economy, the chief minister expressed hope that the project would immensely benefit the targeted beneficiaries.
Based on economical viability, Rio advised the farmers to opt for crops and livestock production to increase their income.
Expressing concern over the destruction of nature through greed and careless attitude of the people, the chief minister urged the people of the state to preserve and conserve the rich natural resources of the state. Stressing on the adverse effect on the agricultural crops due to climate change, Rio urged the farmers to make an effort everyday to ensure the survival of mother earth, which in turn sustains the existence of human being.
Further, the chief minister encouraged the beneficiaries to undertake the project with all seriousness not only for their livelihood, but also for the economic uplift of the entire state.
Rio informed that the Minister of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Metsubo Jamir, who was also present at the programme, has assured that his department would provide an outlet for the surplus production.
Presenting a report on Northern Angami Chükehie society, Visakhotuo Kiewhuo said the vision of the society was to promote and build village economy in a sustainable manner.
He said the society’s missions were to empower villages with socio-economic, financial self sufficiency and stability, promote livestock and poultry backyard farming, paddy field (aqua) fish farming and others and the surveillance and monitoring team would be set up for success of the programme.
In his keynote address, Dr. Vikuolie Mezatsü, shared the potential of earning and increase in their income by taking up the project of rearing livestock. He said there was big gap between demand and supply for meat in the state. Dr. Mezatsü disclosed that the demand for meat in the state was much higher than national level.
He assured the beneficiaries that the responsible department was ready to extend help in case of any disease affected to the animals.
Programme was chaired by NPDD 11 Northern Angami A/C president, Vibeilietuo Kets, invocation prayer was said by CRC Pezielietsie pastor Letuolie Pienyü, special was presented by Vilakhonuo Keditsu while vote of thanks was proposed by NKVIB chairman, Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu. Later, the chief minister launched the livestock programme by giving away fruit tree saplings, piglets and chicks to the beneficiaries.
