Nagaland will join the rest of the world in observing Remembrance Day on November 11, 2025, to honour the sacrifices of British and Commonwealth servicemen and women who fought during the World Wars and later conflicts. Initiated by the State government in partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), the observance aims to remind citizens of the human cost of war and reinforce the collective commitment to peace.
According to a Home department release issued through DIPR, Remembrance Day serves as a solemn tribute to those who died or suffered in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations, offering an occasion to reflect on their courage and sacrifice in defence of freedom.
The department recalled that the first formal observance held last year was attended by the British Deputy High Commissioner and strengthened ties between Nagaland and the United Kingdom. The commemoration has now become an annual fixture in the State government’s calendar, paying homage to those who fell during the Battle of Kohima—one of the most decisive battles of the Second World War—and reaffirming Kohima’s significance in global military history.
This year’s ceremony will take place on the morning of November 11 at the Kohima War Cemetery, with chief minister Neiphiu Rio as the Special Guest and Bhaarat Dave, Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, as the Honoured Guest. Representatives from the embassies of the United Kingdom and Ireland, legislators, senior officials, Army and Police personnel, war veterans and other invitees will attend. The programme will include book stalls on the Battle of Kohima, flower displays, musical performances and the flagging off of a Vintage Cars Rally by Nagaland Flatfenders Club.
An evening programme will be held at Banquet Hall, Hotel Vivor, from 5 p.m., featuring a conversation on “The Battle of Kohima: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” with advisor Abu Metha and politician-author Mmhonlumo Kikon, followed by musical performances and dinner.
