The 5th edition of the Lotha Tokhu Emong Badminton Tournament 2025, organised by Hi-Flyers Club, was held on November 4 at the Dimapur State Stadium, Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Complex, with former MLA Yankithung Yanthan gracing the occasion as special guest.
Extending Tokhu greetings, Yanthan called for a long-term strategy to sustain and elevate the tournament in the years ahead. He assured his continued support to the club and encouraged players to uphold discipline and adhere to the rules of the game. Emphasising unity through sports, he urged participants to move forward with renewed commitment, stating that the essence of the tournament lies not in winning but in participation and fellowship.
Delivering the welcome address, Hi-Flyers Club president Er. Renbeni Kikon said the club was formed as a non-profit initiative to foster unity among the Lotha community and provide a platform for aspiring players. He acknowledged the support of well-wishers and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to promoting sportsmanship.
The programme, chaired by N. Benlanthung Yanthan, began with an invocation by Rev. Lumtsuo Ezung. A special number was presented by Zaren Ngullie, followed by a benediction from Rev. Dr. Yanbemo Ovung.
A total of 52 players from Dimapur and Chumoukedima participated in three categories—Men’s Doubles, Veteran 40+ Amateur Doubles, and Veteran 40+ Intermediate Doubles.
In the Men’s Doubles category, Renchio Patton and Achum Ovung emerged champions, while Chumthungo Ngullie and Alanthung Mozhui finished runners-up. In the Veteran 40+ Amateur Doubles, Zubenthung Ovung and Rev. Lumtsuo Ezung clinched the title, with Chenithung Ezung and Abel Lotha as runners-up. The Veteran 40+ Intermediate Doubles was won by Yanpo Humtsoe and Yithungbemo Ovung, while Nchumbemo Tsopoe and Er. Renben Kikon secured second place.
The organisers expressed gratitude to donors and supporters including Myingthungo Ababe Ezung, K Mhonthung, Dr Robin Mozhui, Wochamo Patton, Er. Albert Ovung, Er. David Tungoe, Myamo Jami and Dr. Longshithung Jami for their contributions towards the success of the tournament.
