An ‘Improved Tool Kits Distribution Programme’ for jewellery craft artisans was successfully organized by MARCOFED, Dimapur, Nagaland, and sponsored by development commissioner (handicrafts), ministry of textiles, government of India, at Nagaland State Cooperative Union Conference Hall Dimapur, Nagaland.
The programme was conducted with the objective of strengthening the traditional jewellery craft sector by providing improved and modern tool kits to enhance precision, finishing quality, productivity, and market competitiveness.
The event was graced by Dr. M. Chuba Ao, chairman, MARCOFED, Dimapur, Nagaland, as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of supporting grassroots artisans and highlighted that access to improved tools plays a crucial role in improving craftsmanship, increasing production efficiency, and generating sustainable livelihoods. He appreciated the support extended by the office of the development commissioner (Handicrafts), ministry of textiles, government of india, in empowering artisans of Nagaland.
Nzano Ngullie, state awardee in handicrafts, also encouraged artisans to maintain high standards of quality and creativity in jewellery making while adapting to improved tools and techniques.
Sudipta Das, Handicrafts Promotion Officer (HPO), Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC), development commissioner (Handicrafts), Kohima, Nagaland, who was also present, briefed artisans about various schemes and support mechanisms available under the ministry of textiles, including skill upgradation, marketing assistance, design development workshops, and exhibition opportunities. He urged beneficiaries to make optimum use of the improved tool kits for enhancing productivity and income. The beneficiaries thanked MARCOFED and the sponsoring authority for providing them with improved tool kits, which will significantly enhance their craftsmanship, reduce manual strain, and improve their earning capacity.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the continued commitment of MARCOFED and the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), ministry of textiles, government of India, towards the socio-economic empowerment and sustainable development of jewellery artisans in Nagaland.
A total of 50 general artisans engaged in jewellery craft from Dimapur and adjoining areas were provided with upgraded tool kits under the scheme.
