The two-day 5th edition of the Riisoma Orange Festival was inaugurated at the local ground, Riisoma, on January 30 with advisor, Department of Tribal Affairs & Election, Tovihoto Ayemi, as the special guest. This year’s festival is being celebrated under the theme “Abundance of Riisoma.”
In his address, Tovihoto lauded the village for its fertile land and productive farming practices, but emphasized the urgent need for better road connectivity. He said good roads were vital for development and urged efforts to improve infrastructure.
Expressing happiness at the villagers’ use of fertile land, Tovihoto described them as fortunate and encouraged farmers to make full use of government initiatives.
He pointed out that strengthening and expanding farming activities could significantly contribute to the state’s economy.
Tovihoto further noted that the festival would help attract tourism and appealed to villagers to adopt new ideas while working hard towards improvements. He assured continued government support for farmers and called for greater collaboration with concerned departments.
Stressing that consistency is the key to success, Tovihoto urged farmers to remain steadfast and open to improvements. He said the government would explore possibilities to expand market opportunities and build sustainable livelihoods through cooperation between the community and the government. He envisioned an agricultural model that is productive, profitable and environmentally responsible.
The programme was chaired by Kekhrie Pfukha, with Rev. Medoneiu Üsou offering the invocation. Convenor of the Organising Committee, Visier Vimera, delivered the welcome address, while Medokhrieü Pfukri enthralled the gathering with her performance.
