CorrespondentWokha Oct 31 (NPN)

To promote value addition and enhance the skills of SHGs in Sankiton village under Wokha, a training programme was conducted on October 31 at the community hall in Wokha.
The programme was organized under the initiative of NSRLM Wozhuro block area coordinator, livelihoods- farm, Yanthanroni P Yanthan, along with certified food processor, Youhana Murry, representing the brand ‘Yuthi Delight’ recently launched by the district administration Wokha, as the resource person.
The training held at Sankiton as the village’s Producer Group took up banana as their main component, focussing on value addition, market linkages, and the utilization of banana to create by-products. The trainer demonstrated the preparation of banana stem juice, known for its numerous health benefits such as aiding in the removal of kidney stones, detoxifying the body, and improving digestion. She also taught the participants how to make banana chips, banana flower pickle, and dried banana candy.
The villagers expressed their gratitude to the department and the trainer for imparting valuable knowledge on value-added products. They shared that previously, banana stems were only used as pig feed, but through the training, they learned that these by-products can also serve as a source of income and help sustain their livelihoods, ensuring that nothing from the banana plant goes to waste.
