A training for faculty and staff on psychological first aid, identification of warning signs, response to self-harm and referral mechanisms was organized by Model Christian College(MCC), Kohima, in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP), Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima, on January 17. The training aimed to equip faculty and staff with essential knowledge and skills to identify mental health concerns and provide appropriate support and referrals.
The main objectives of the training were to enhance awareness of mental health issues among faculty and staff, to introduce the concept and application of psychological first aid, to help identify early warning signs of mental distress and self-harm and to familiarize participants with appropriate response strategies and referral mechanisms.
The programme was moderated by nodal officer, Asenla Jamir. The first session, titled “Psychological First Aid”, was conducted by DMHP, psychiatric nurse, Kethozeno Mere. The session focused on the importance of early identification of mental health concerns and providing immediate emotional support.
The second session on “Navigating Mental Health & Common Mental Disorders and Pathways to Care” was led by DMHP, psychiatric social worker, Veronica Nriame. The session highlighted common mental health disorders and emphasized appropriate referral mechanisms. The programme concluded with a summarization and interaction session.
