ICAR–KVK, Longleng conducted a one-day training programme on vermicompost techniques for organic farming and soil enrichment at Noksosang Village, Tuensang, to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices among farmers.
The training was led by Dr. Avaneesh Kumar, subject matter specialist (Agronomy), who highlighted the importance of vermicomposting in improving soil health, enhancing nutrient availability and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
During the programme, Shubhendu Kumar Behera, subject matter specialist (Plant Pathology), and Dr. Kalu Ram, subject matter specialist (Fruit Science), also interacted with the participants. They shared practical insights on the role of organic inputs in disease management and crop productivity, while emphasizing the integrated approach of organic farming for long-term soil fertility and sustainable crop production.
In the feedback session, farmers expressed appreciation to ICAR–Agriculture Science Centre, Longleng, for organizing the training at the village level. Participants found the sessions highly informative and practical, and conveyed their willingness to adopt vermicomposting and other organic soil enrichment practices in their fields to improve soil health and farm income. A total of 54 farmers actively participated in the training programme.
