In a significant step towards sustainable community development, the Treasures of Phek Society (ToPS) was launched by Dr. Pritpal Kaur, Superintendent of Police, Phek, at the Tourist Lodge, Phek village on January 17, 2026.
Conceptualized by Dr. Kaur, the initiative seeks to address unemployment while prioritizing environmental conservation, women’s empowerment and preservation of traditional knowledge. Speaking at the launch, Dr. Kaur underscored the importance of teamwork and innovation in building a peaceful and progressive society. She also informed that members of the society had received training from institutions including KVK, NTTC and ICAR.
The ToPS product line showcases a diverse range of locally sourced items such as banana fiber, straw and wooden crafts, along with processed fruits and vegetables transformed into chips, juices and candies. Agricultural strengths of the region are also highlighted through herbal products like turmeric and ginger, besides value‑added offerings of millets and sticky rice.
The launch programme witnessed strong support from local leaders and administration. Er. Khuvoyi Vese of NBM urged farmers to pursue long‑term sustainable goals, while EAC Phek, Imnasenla, encouraged discipline in skill enhancement. CMA president, Zhonelu, called for replication of the ToPS model across villages in the district.
The programme began with invocation by Rev. Vezopa Tetseo and a welcome address by VDB secretary, Huvekholu. It was attended by a wide cross‑section of society including farmers, elders, CMA, PAPO, CYF, SHGs and various community frontal organizations.
