Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee to abstain from Nov 18 public rally

DIMAPUR, NOV 15 (NPN)

The Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee (NTHCC) announced it will not participate in the public rally organised by the “Common Platform” on November 18, citing concerns that a parallel platform could undermine ongoing reconciliation efforts among Naga stakeholders.
The NTHCC- which includes the Angami Public Organisation, Ao Senden, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Lotha Hoho, Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho, Sümi Hoho and the Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organisation – said its decision is rooted in a commitment to unity, reconciliation and a collective political future for the Naga people.
In a statement, the committee pointed to two recent milestones aimed at forging consensus among Naga groups: the Ungma Statement adopted on August 23, 2025, at Ungma Village, where 16 Naga Political Groups (NPGs), 34 tribal hohos and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) agreed to pursue a common political vision without preconditions; and the Zunheboto Resolution passed on September 27, 2025, in Zunheboto, endorsed by 15 NPGs, 33 tribal hohos and the FNR, which emphasised forgiveness, mutual respect and inclusive reconciliation.
The NTHCC said it had previously endorsed the FNR initiative at its September 20 meeting and warned that the formation of an alternative platform—spearheaded by the All Nagaland GBs Association and other stakeholders—risks fragmenting the convergence envisioned in Ungma and Zunheboto.
“As apex tribal bodies, the NTHCC’s member hohos represent legitimate tribal voices,” the committee said, urging Gaon Buras (GBs), tribal civil society organisations and other bodies to place their trust in their respective apex organisations and to avoid actions that could dilute the reconciliation process.
The NTHCC also welcomed the Government of Nagaland’s acknowledgment of the Ungma Statement through its Political Affairs Committee (PAC) and called on the state to follow up its endorsement with consistent political will and policy support to ensure the durability of any negotiated settlement.
By opting out of the November 18 rally, the NTHCC has asked allied bodies – including the Central Nagaland Tribal Council, the Tenyimia Union Nagaland and GBs of NTHCC tribes – to likewise abstain to prevent parallel initiatives that, the committee said, could hamper the FNR-led process.
The NTHCC reiterated its belief that a unified, consensus-driven approach is essential for securing a lasting political solution for the Nagas and urged all political groups and tribal bodies to recommit to the FNR-backed reconciliation process under the guiding principles of the Ungma Statement and the Zunheboto Resolution.
