DIMAPUR, AUG 7 (NPN): Nagaland United are set to make a significant step into national football after reaching an agreement to acquire Aizawl FC’s Indian Football League (IFL) licence, subject to formal approval from the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
If approved, Nagaland United are expected to play their home matches in Dimapur, marking the state’s entry into the IFL.
The agreement pertains only to Aizawl FC’s IFL rights. The former I-League champions will continue competing in the Mizoram Premier League (MPL) while maintaining their local identity in Mizoram.
It has also been reported that the Nagaland Football Association has informed the AIFF about the proposed change in ownership.
However, despite the agreement, uncertainty remains over whether the club will feature in the 2026-27 IFL season, with the league scheduled to begin on October 16 and only about two months remaining before kickoff.
If the transfer receives AIFF approval, it will mark a new chapter for Nagaland United in Indian football, while Aizawl FC continue their footballing journey through the MPL and youth development initiatives.
