As part of the observance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, Government of India, under its MY Bharat Department (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports), in coordination with District Administration Dimapur, will be organizing a Unity March (Padayatra) on Thursday.
The rally, organized jointly by Mera Yuva Kendra, District Administration, and Dimapur Police, with support from various line departments, will commence from City Tower at 6 am, and culminate at Dimapur Government College (DGC).
Briefing on the event, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, addressing media fraternity at DC Conference hall, informed that the Unity March aims to spread the message of national integration and celebrate enduring legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the “Iron Man of India”.
Describing the march as “not merely a walk, but a collective journey honouring the principles and vision that Sardar Patel championed”, the DC stated that the event would pay tribute to Patel’s pivotal role in unifying more than 560 princely states and laying the foundation for a united India. “Sardar Patel’s extraordinary leadership in unifying these diverse states under one national flag was instrumental in laying the foundation for a united India”, he stated.
He also added that Patel’s contributions as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, his leadership in establishing the All India Services, and his decisive role in strengthening administrative unity, beyond political unification, continue to inspire generations.
He further added that the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, stands today as a testament to his remarkable vision and unwavering dedication to national integrity.
Dr Chang later urged the public to actively participate in the march, pointing that the “Unity Walk” is expected to see around 200 to 300 students, including NCC Cadets and NSS volunteers and members from various clubs of schools, and colleges.
Meanwhile, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat, K. Manikanta, informed that the district-level campaign would be held from October 31 to November 25, while the national campaign would take place from November 26 to December 5.
