Department of Sociology, Lumami, Nagaland University (NU), organised a lecture as part of its Sociology Lecture Series on October 4, with director, UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, North Bengal University, Professor Anjan Chakrabarti, as speaker.
A press release by NU informed that Professor Chakrabarti offered comprehensive analysis of Northeast India’s historical trajectory, tracing the region’s development through three distinct periods, pre-colonial, colonial, and postcolonial.
A key focus of his presentation was challenging the prevalent notion of Northeast’s isolation, arguing instead that the region maintained strong historical connections until British colonial administration’s territorial reorganization disrupted established trade routes and developmental pathways.
He said that conflict and security interests have further hampered growth of economic opportunities in the region, further adding that his analysis provided valuable insights into how these geopolitical changes shaped the region’s development trajectory and current circumstances. The release informed that the session was moderated by Asst. Professor, Dept of Sociology, Dr. Suraj Beri, and concluded with vote of thanks by Asst. Professor, Dept of Sociology, Dr Dipika Paul.
