Nagaland University has qualified for the prestigious All India Inter-University Football Tournament after a thrilling victory over host team Royal Global University in Guwahati, Assam.
The decisive match, played during the AIU North East Zone University Championship (January 5–11, 2026), ended in a dramatic 3–3 draw at full time. Nagaland University held its nerve in the penalty shootout, clinching victory with a 4–1 scoreline to seal its place in the national-level competition.
The 22-member squad was guided by coach Wati Longchar and managed by deputy director of Sports, Nagaland University Mesanguto Meru. The team’s qualification marks another milestone for the university, which had finished as runners-up in last year’s edition of the championship. The AIU North East Zone University Championship was hosted by Royal Global University, bringing together top university teams from across the region.
