Nagaland Utd stun Real Kashmir 3-1 on IFL debut

SRINAGAR, OCT 30 (AGENCIES): Nagaland United SC made a memorable debut in the Indian Football League (IFL) 2026–27, registering an impressive 3-1 victory over Real Kashmir FC in the season opener at the TRC Stadium in Srinagar on Friday.
The debutants produced an impressive attacking display, with JH Remlala scoring early before Vanlalhriatzuala K netted twice to secure all three points for the visitors. The victory marked Nagaland United’s maiden win and first-ever points in the IFL.
Nagaland United got off to a flying start, taking the lead in just the third minute. A long throw-in from Stephen Lalrinfela created confusion inside the Real Kashmir penalty area, allowing Remlala to regain possession after his initial attempt was blocked before firing the ball into the roof of the net.
The visitors doubled their advantage in the 21st minute through a well-worked attacking move. Vincent Lalduhawma brought down an aerial ball and linked up with Zomuansanga before releasing Vanlalhriatzuala on the right. The forward produced a superb right-footed finish into the far corner to make it 2-0.
Real Kashmir attempted to respond, with Thabiso Nelson Brown coming close in the 24th minute, but his header from Oinam Sanatomba Singh’s cross sailed over the crossbar. The hosts continued to create opportunities towards the closing stages of the first half, but Nagaland United goalkeeper Vanlalhriatpuia made crucial saves to preserve the visitors’ two-goal advantage at the break.
Real Kashmir returned with greater urgency after the interval and eventually reduced the deficit in the 59th minute. Lalvenhima’s cross from the right was inadvertently turned into his own net by Nagaland United captain Rohmingthanga, giving the hosts a lifeline at 1-2.
The goal brought Real Kashmir back into contention, but Nagaland United remained composed and continued to threaten on the counter-attack. Their persistence paid off in the 74th minute when Zomuansanga delivered an excellent through ball to Vanlalhriatzuala. The forward showed composure to beat the advancing goalkeeper before finishing into the empty net to restore the two-goal cushion and complete his brace.
Nagaland United continued to push forward, with Laldanmawia forcing Real Kashmir goalkeeper James Kirthan into an excellent save in the 83rd minute. The visitors’ defence also remained organised to deny the hosts any opportunity of staging a late comeback.
Real Kashmir searched for another goal in the closing stages, but Nagaland United held firm to secure a convincing 3-1 victory. Vanlalhriatzuala was named Man of the Match for his impressive performance and two-goal contribution.
The result provided a significant boost to Nagaland United’s debut campaign, as the club began its maiden IFL journey with a statement victory away from home.
