Nagaland Veteran legislator ImkongL. Imchen passes away at 75

DIMAPUR/KOHIMA, NOV 11 (NPN)

Veteran politician and BJP legislator and advisor for Information & Public Relations, and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L. Imchen, passed away in Guwahati on Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 75. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, three sons and 13 grandchildren.
Imchen was hospitalised in Kohima on November 8 reportedly after a heart attack and was placed on ventilator support. He then airlifted to Guwahati on November 10, where he passed away the following day.
Born on June 15, 1950 at Mangmetong village under Mokokchung district, Imkong L. Imchen completed matriculation from Government High School, Mokokchung in 1973, graduated from Kohima College in 1980, and obtained his MA from North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, in 1983.
Imchen began public life as a student leader, serving as vice president (1979–1981) and president (1981–1983) of the Ao Students’ Conference, and general secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation (1983–1985).
Among other key community leadership roles, Imhen also served as president of Ongpangkong Range Council and president (1995–1998) of Ao Senden.
Entering active politics, Imchen served as general secretary of Congress (DCC Mokokchung) in 1982, president of Mokokchung District Congress (1989–1997), and vice president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee from 1998 to 2003. He entered the State Assembly as an Independent from 28 Koridang A/C in 2003 and was re-elected (2008, 2013 and 2018) on NPF ticket and 2023 as BJP legislator.
State funeral today
State government has informed that a state funeral to pay last respect and homage to late Imkong L Imchen, would be held at his official residence, MH-3, Old Ministers’ Hill, Kohima, on November 12, at 9:30 a.m. The funeral service will be livestreamed on the official YouTube channel of DIPR Nagaland.
After the State Funeral, the body will be taken by road from Kohima to Mangmetong village, for burial on November 13.
