The Fun Tree Crew (FTC) 2nd Hornbill Traditional Sports Circuit Challenge 2025 was held at RCEMPA, Phezhü, Jotsoma, celebrating indigenous physical culture while showcasing traditional Naga endurance and skill.
Two participants—Visizo Peseyie from Nagaland and Jack Hakhum from Arunachal Pradesh—competed closely across all six stations of the traditional sports circuit where Visizo Peseyie emerged as the champion.
The circuit consisted of six traditional-themed challenges. The first was a 1.5 km Hunter’s Run from RCEMPA to Sazolie College and back. This was followed by the Porter’s Carry, where competitors carried a 30 kg sandbag in a bamboo basket (Khorü). The Farmer’s Chop required the use of a blunt axe to split firewood, while the Giant’s Throw involved throwing a 5 kg stone to a target distance of 35 feet. The circuit also featured the Warrior’s Strike using a catapult from 30 feet, and concluded with the Shaman’s Fire, where participants were required to ignite a fire using twigs, paper and a matchbox.
Both competitors completed the full circuit with identical overall timings, leading to a tie-breaker. For the deciding round, the participants were required to chop an additional log, and the one who completed the task in the shortest time was declared the winner.
The champion received a “Winner Takes All” cash prize of Rs. 20,000 along with a certificate, while both competitors were acknowledged for their performance and sportsmanship.
They also expressed appreciation to the Tourism Department and the Government of Nagaland for their support, and to TAfMA for providing the RCEMPA venue, which enabled the smooth conduct of the event.
The event was graced by president of the Nagaland Two Wheeler Taxi Association, Keneisalie Belho, who handed over the cash prize and certificates to the participants.
FTC added that the Traditional Sports Circuit Challenge aims to preserve traditional practices and promote indigenous fitness culture and expressed hope for greater participation in future editions.
