Nagaland Volleyball Championship 2025, organised by LL Group and managed by NAKZOER under the theme “In Pursuit of Excellence,” got underway on Tuesday at Aliba village with Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) Councillor Wabang Kichu gracing the opening ceremony as guest of honour.
A total of 18 teams—comprising eight local teams and ten from across the state—are vying for the coveted title. The championship carries a cash prize of Rs.1.20 lakh for the winner, Rs. 80,000 for the runner-up, and Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 40,000 for the third and fourth place teams, respectively. Individual awards of Rs. 5,000 each will also be presented to the Best Setter, Best Spiker, Player of the Tournament, and Most Promising Player.
Addressing the gathering, Wabang Kichu highlighted volleyball’s growing popularity in Nagaland, attributing it to the sport’s adaptability to the state’s hilly terrain and its affordability. He emphasised that success in the sport requires hard work, determination, perseverance, teamwork, and above all, consistency. Stressing the importance of discipline, he urged both players and spectators to uphold sportsmanship and mutual respect.
He also encouraged athletes to maintain a healthy diet, set clear goals, and strive for excellence.
The championship will culminate on the evening of November 6 with a grand finale featuring a fireworks display, food and merchandise stalls, and a musical extravaganza showcasing some of Nagaland’s most celebrated artistes.
