Nagaland: Waku Tara crowned champion at LWA 38th Wrestling

DIMAPUR, DEC 22 (NPN)

The 38th Wrestling Meet 2025 of the Losami Wrestling Association (LWA) concluded at Losami Local Ground with Waku Tara emerging as the overall champion in the A Category. Tara pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 18,000 for his victory.
In the same category, Chenewe Swuro secured second place, winning Rs. 15,000, while Menuwehi Mekrisuh and Thomewe Khesoh finished third and fourth, receiving Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively.

The prize money for the Under-15 category was sponsored by the Losami Uniform Service Union.
Gracing the inaugural function as special guest, secretary COB Naga People’s Front (NPF) Nagaland, Wepe Mekrisuh, highlighted the growing popularity of Naga wrestling. He urged youngsters to actively participate in the indigenous sport, emphasizing its deep cultural significance as a symbol of strength, fame, brotherhood, communal harmony, and traditional values. He also encouraged wrestlers to pursue the discipline professionally to excel at higher levels.
The closing function was attended by secretary VDB Losami, Pfiitsiikolo Akami, who distributed prizes to the winners. It was announced that tracksuits for selected wrestlers competing in the upcoming Phek area wrestling meet will be sponsored by PA to Advisor NSDMA & NRE, Government of Nagaland, Wewuhi Akami.
The meet was supported by patrons including Chetezo Akami, Chekholo Akami, Kekhwehi Akami, Zote Theke, Hiweku Mebou, Tekhewe Khesoh, Chedeku K Tara, Wewuzo K Tara, Zekope Kepfoh, Mesete Akami, and Mesewetso Akami.
The inaugural programme was led by Hichote Kepfoh, with LWA president Kuhi Mekrisuh delivering the welcome address. LWA technical secretary Mehipe K Tara administered the oath to the wrestlers, while finance secretary Eyewekho M Nusoh proposed the vote of thanks.
The event also witnessed the presence of dignitaries including Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dimapur, Virielhoulie Miario; general secretary of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA), Kukhoto Venyo; president of Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), Kuvesa Khamo; and several others.
