Nagaland Walk4Dyslexia unites communities across Nagaland

DIMAPUR

Nagaland joined the global “Go Red” movement with the Walk4Dyslexia 2025, an awareness initiative aimed at promoting understanding, inclusion, and support for children and individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs). Walk4Dyslexia 2025 was held to observe Dyslexia Awareness Month,
The flagship walk held on October 25 in Kohima, began at the Directorate of School Education and concluded at SCERT, Kohima. The event was led by the Directorate of School Education, SCERT Nagaland, and Samagra Shiksha, in collaboration with ChangeInkk Foundation, UNESCO MGIEP, SOCH Foundation, ORKIDS, and also it was also joined by N.B.S.E, , Modern Institute of Teacher Education, T.M Govt. Hr. Sec. School Kohima, G.H.S Bayavu, N.H.S.C Elderline, JO Foundation Inclusive School and various organizations.
The statewide movement also saw parallel Walk4Dyslexia events in several districts including Longleng, Mokokchung, Phek, Peren, Tseminyu and Zunheboto, with enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, school leaders, special educators, parents, NGOs, and policymakers.
SLDs such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and dyspraxia affect individuals with average or above-average intelligence but impact their ability to read, write, spell, or process language. Despite challenges, individuals with SLDs often demonstrate remarkable creativity, innovation, and problem-solving abilities — a message strongly echoed throughout the Walk4Dyslexia campaign.
Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Nagaland department of education, in partnership with ChangeInkk Foundation since 2022, has undertaken a state-level systems transformation to build inclusive classrooms by training educators, developing accessible teaching-learning materials (TLMs), and ensuring early identification and support for students with SLDs.
The Kohima walk was also graced and actively participated by Kevrialeü Kerhuo, Director, SCERT Nagaland, along with Dr. Chumbeni Kikon, joint mission director, Samagra Shiksha, and T. Lima Longkumer, addl. director, SCERT Nagaland. A special group song was presented by students of T.M. Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, showcasing the spirit of inclusion and advocacy.
Over 200 participants joined the Kohima walk, pledging to build an inclusive education system where no child is left behind due to a learning disability. The program concluded at SCERT with a thanksgiving remark and refreshments sponsored by SCERT Nagaland.
