Arunachal Pradesh’s minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, Dairy Development, Fishery, Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs, Gabriel D Wangsu has lauded the conservation efforts of the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun in protecting the state animal of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, Mithun.
Speaking at the 37th foundation Day of ICAR- National research centre on Mithun and regional workshop on “Development of diary sector in North East India with special reference to Mithun (Bos frontalis)” at ICAR- National research centre on Mithun, Medziphema on Tuesday, Wangsu said the conservation efforts have made remarkable progress, leading to significant 29% increase in the Mithun population among all livestock, and has lessened the fear of Mithun becoming endangered species.
He praised the efforts of scientists and those involved in the conservation work, and for developing cost-effective solutions for farmers, who faced difficulties in rearing Mithun. He called on stakeholders to ensure that farmers benefit from conservation efforts and congratulated the states of Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh for their dedication in securing this prized possession.
As a farmer himself, Wangsu shared his personal connection to the challenges faced by the farming community and his commitment to understand their problems.

Inputs of Director (AHV&DD) on Mithun development roadmap was delivered by Animal Husbandry Arunachal Pradesh director Dr. D Longri and remarks by AHV&DD IOFS, secretary Hage Tari.
At the programme welcome address was delivered by principal scientist Dr Kathiravan Periasamy and vote of thanks by scientist Dr. Harshit Kumar.
On the occasion, a one-day regional workshop on “Development of diary sector in North East India with special reference to Mithun (Bos frontalis) was also observed for the farmers. Highlights of the event included release of policy paper, publications and award, input distribution to famers with ICAR- National Diary research institute, Karnal, Haryana director Dr Dheer Singh as special guest and AHV&DD, GoAP, secretary Hagi Tari and ICAR- NDRi, Karnal, Haryana joint director (research) Dr Rajan Sharma as guests of honour.
The programme was organized by ICAR- National research centre on Mithun, Nagaland in collaboration with ICAR- National diary research institute, Karnal, Haryana.
