DIMAPUR, AUG 31 (NPN): Nagaland team represented by 23 shooters (5 women and 18 men), competed across disciplines including 10m Rifle and Pistol, 25m Standard Pistol, 50m Rifle Prone and Clay Pigeon Trap Shooting at the 13th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2026, held in Guwahati, Assam from August 25 to 30. Nagaland shooters delivered an outstanding medal tally of 12 medals with 6 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals, marking one of the state’s strongest showings at the zonal level.
The medal winners were Chizou Sorhienuo – Gold in 10m Air Rifle Senior Master Women Individual and Gold in 50m Rifle Prone Senior Master Women Individual; Yimyakumla – Gold in 50m Rifle Prone Junior Women Individual and Gold in 50m Rifle Prone Youth Women Individual, with Silver in 50m Rifle Prone Women Individual and Bronze in 10m Air Rifle (ISSF) Women.
Merang Jamir – Gold in 50m Rifle Prone Senior Master Men Individual and Gold in Clay Pigeon Trap Shooting Senior Master Men Individual; Rongsennangshi Longchar – Silver in 10m Air Rifle Sub-Youth Men Individual; Thejaselhou Ajan Liezietsu – Bronze in 10m Air Rifle Junior Men Individual; Lanu Akumtoshi Jamir – Bronze in 25m Standard Pistol Master Men Individual; Kimatsung Jamir – Silver in Clay Pigeon Trap Shooting Senior Men Individual.
Altogether, 15 shooters from Nagaland have qualified for the upcoming 69th National Shooting Championships 2026, further cementing the state’s growing reputation in shooting sports.
Officials, coaches and team members expressed pride in the achievement, calling it a milestone moment for Nagaland’s sporting community.
