Nagaland wins 7 medals at Khelo India Tribal Games 2026

Nagaland athletes and archers brought laurels to the state by clinching a total of seven medals at the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, held from March 25 to April 3 across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Surguja in Chhattisgarh. Nagaland secured 12th position overall with two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals.
The athletics contingent, comprising ten athletes and three support staff, returned to Dimapur on Saturday and was accorded a warm reception at Dimapur Airport.
Medal winners included Wede T. Mero (Gold, 10,000m Men), Rüduolhounuo Rachel Belho (Silver, 100m Women), and Tsuchoi T (Bronze, 5,000m Women).
Nagaland’s archers also excelled, bagging four medals: Gold in Recurve Women Team, Silver in Compound Women Team, Bronze in Recurve Mixed Team, and Bronze in Recurve Individual (Women).
Addressing media, athletics team manager Er Medozhazo Rutsa expressed gratitude for the support received and lauded the athletes’ determination.
He noted that the Games provided a valuable platform for tribal athletes and emphasized the need for sustained investment in infrastructure, training facilities, and scholarships to nurture emerging talent.
“Our mantra was to give our best and leave the rest to God. The athletes performed with determination, and we are proud of the results,” Rutsa stated.
He further acknowledged the support extended by state government, Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland Athletics, and Nagaland Olympic Association.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Archery Association president, Chekrovolou Swuro, described the achievement as a “big moment” for the state.
She praised the organization of the Games and expressed confidence in the future of archery in Nagaland, highlighting the potential of local athletes to compete at the highest levels, including the Olympics.
Swuro further revealed her discussions with the Chief Minister, who assured support for sports development in the state.
