Nagaland: Wokha bids farewell to WTC chairperson

The funeral service of late Khozamo Murry, chairperson of Wokha Town Council (WTC) was held at the Public Ground, Wokha, on December 17.
The service was attended by Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe MLA, deputy commissioner Vineet Kumar, senior district officials, members and staff of WTC, representatives of Wokha District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WDCCI), NPF party members, family members, friends, and members of Wokha Town and Wokha Village Union.
As a mark of respect, all business establishments in Wokha town remained closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the district mourning period.
Speaking at the service, Humtsoe described late Murry as a selfless and dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the community. He recalled Murry’s contributions and said he was widely regarded as the “guardian of Wokha town,” having shouldered multiple responsibilities with commitment and humility. Humtsoe also offered prayers for strength and comfort to the bereaved family. Deputy commissioner Vineet Kumar conveyed condolences on behalf of the district administration, describing Murry’s demise as a great loss to the town and district. He said the late chairperson would be remembered for his sincere efforts towards the development of WTC.
Members of WTC and representatives of various organisations also paid tributes. The scripture message was delivered by Rev. Abemo Jungio, pastor of Wokha Town Baptist Church (WTBC), followed by a mass benediction prayer by Chumbenthung Murry, assistant pastor of WTBC.
The mortal remains of late Khozamo Murry were later taken to his native village, Wokha, and laid to rest at the Wokha Village Baptist Church cemetery.

Patton, NPF, WDCCI condole
Deputy Chief Minister, Y. Patton, Naga People’s Front (NPF) and Wokha District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WDCCI) have expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Wokha Town Council chairperson, Khozamo Murry, who passed away on December 16 after a brief illness.
Patton said the news of his demise has deeply saddened all who had the privilege of working with him and the many lives he touched through his public service. He described Murry as a sincere and compassionate leader who carried out his duties with patience and fairness, remaining committed to the welfare of the people. Patton added that his contribution to civic life and dedication to community needs would be remembered, while extending heartfelt.
NPF, in its message, said Murry’s passing has left a void not only in Wokha Town Council but also in the party, noting that his leadership and contributions would be deeply missed. The party conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that the Almighty grant solace and comfort at this hour of grief.
WDCCI also mourned his demise, recalling his invaluable contributions and guidance to the Chamber, and his humility and commitment to the welfare of the business community.
