Nagaland women clinch 1st runners-up trophy at Pencak Silat League

Nagaland women have once again stamped their authority on the national stage, scripting another chapter of sporting excellence at the ASMITA Khelo India National Pencak Silat League 2026, held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, NEHU Campus, Shillong, Meghalaya, on March 26 and 27.
Nagaland women’s contingent bagged an impressive tally of 3 Gold, 1 Silver and 5 Bronze medals, securing the coveted 1st runners-up champion trophy among 25 States and 1 Union Territory.
Leading the golden charge in sparring events were Liike Kibami, Niya K. Thono and Avikali V. Sheqi, while Tina Thapa clinched Silver. Bronze medals were added by Illy Swu and Diana.
In the artistic discipline, Liike Kibami won Bronze in Creative Solo, while she partnered with Tina Thapa to secure Bronze in Pair Composed Combat. The trio team of Niya K. Thono, Liike Kibami and Avikali V. Sheqi added another Bronze.
The championship was conducted under ASMITA – Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action – a flagship initiative of the Khelo India Mission, sponsored by the Sports Authority of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The event was organized by the Meghalaya Pencak Silat Association under the supervision of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation.
The closing ceremony was graced by Wailadmiki Shylla, minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, alongside John F. Kharshiing, working president of Meghalaya Olympic Association, and Md. Iqbal, CEO of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, among other dignitaries.
