All vehicles entering Dimapur from Assam will be diverted to the four-lane road at Patkai during the course of rehabilitation of the road over bridge (RoB) near Hotel Tragopan on NH-29. This was stated by DC Dimapur Dr. Tinojongshi Chang to media persons on the sidelines of the inauguration programme of the new office of Dimapur Municipal Council(DMC) here Friday.
He said that once clearance was received from NHIDCL, all vehicles from Assam would be diverted to the four-lane road at Patkai from October. He informed the media that after receiving NHIDCL clearance , a meeting will d be held to decide on the date of closure of traffic.
He said the RoB is scheduled to commence from October this year . He also confirmed that the Public Works Department (Works & Housing) had informed the district administration regarding the proposed works that would be carried out. This follows the PWD (W&H) announcing rehabilitation of the RoB, published on September 20.
The DC further stated that the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) had assured that the bypass four-lane road would be completed by October. In April 2023, a trial run was conducted by Dimapur Police by closing the RoB, which led to severe traffic congestion across Dimapur.
Asked what kind of traffic measures would to taken so that a similar problem did not arise, DC assured that necessary measures would be taken in coordination with the traffic police and all officials concerned, hoping that there would be no traffic congestion unlike the previous trial run.
