Workshop on education, mental health and menstrual hygiene

Dimapur 24/7 organized an impactful workshop focusing on education, mental health, and menstrual hygiene on November 17, at Grace Assembly of God Church, Diphupar ‘B’ village, 5th mile.

Held under the theme “Menstrual Hygiene is Empowerment,” the workshop aimed to raise awareness among students, women, and community members, promoting empowerment and overall well-being.

Leading the workshop, chairperson of Dimapur 24/7, Annie Jain, distributed sanitary pads, razors, and soaps to participants, with sanitary pads sponsored by Madan Sharma & Co. and Falguni Enterprise. In her address, Jain highlighted the importance of challenging societal taboos around menstruation, advocating for open dialogue and practical solutions to empower women.

“Menstrual hygiene is not just about access to sanitary products; it’s about dignity, empowerment, and creating environments where women feel safe and supported. By addressing this, we can help women focus on their education and ambitions without the barriers of shame or discomfort,” Jain stated.

She also discussed progressive policies in Indian states such as Kerala, Bihar, and Odisha, where women are granted leave on the first or second day of their menstrual cycle. Such measures, she emphasized, represent a significant step towards inclusivity and women’s health in the workplace.

Jain also underscored the importance of mental health awareness, emphasizing its critical role in overall well-being. “Mental health is often overlooked, yet it is crucial to create supportive networks where people feel comfortable seeking help. Understanding and reducing stigma can foster healthier communities,” she said.

Uday Kumar Sah, an executive member of Dimapur 24/7, spoke on education’s broader impact. He urged attendees to view education as a tool for character building, societal upliftment, and personal growth.

“Education is not just about cracking exams or securing government jobs. It is about winning behavior and contributing to the community and the nation,” Sah remarked. He also encouraged participants to have multiple goals and to prepare for a fulfilling, self-sustaining life.

Allan Aley, another executive member, provided insights on education and mental health from a biblical perspective, encouraging participants to align personal growth with Christian values and reinforcing the spiritual aspect of self-improvement.
