A 17-member contingent of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) has departed for Gonda, Uttar Pradesh on November 9 to undergo a month-long coaching camp organized in collaboration with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The camp will focus on Freestyle Wrestling and Greco-Roman Style, two disciplines in which the NWA envisions nurturing and developing Naga wrestlers for upcoming national championships.
A brief send-off programme was held in Kohima prior to the team’s departure. Addressing the gathering, Pastor of Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima, Dr. Chikhungo Puro, encouraged and blessed the team. He exhorted the wrestlers to maintain discipline and put God above all in their pursuit of success as athletes.
The contingent includes prominent Naga wrestlers such as Venuzo Dawhuo and Huluyi D. Vadeo, among others. The team is being led by joint secretary of NWA, Kuzhovesa Soho, and treasurer of NWA Keneilel Kevin Rote.
