CorrespondentWOKHA, JAN 9 (NPN)

Wokha Town Council (WTC) on January 9 elected W. Myingthungo Kikon as the new chairperson, following the demise of former chairperson late Khozamo Murry.
A member of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), Myingthungo won the Town Council election from Ward No. 3 (Jonsulan).
He had initially contested the town council elections on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket.
The party later aligned with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), which subsequently merged with the NPF. Myingthungo was formally elected as chairperson on January 9.
The Wokha Town Council comprises 15 elected ward councillors and five nominated members. Ward No. 8, however, remains vacant following the demise of late Khozamo Murry.
The council is expected to continue functioning with the existing members until the vacant seat is filled through due process.
