Nagaland Wushu Association holds annual general meeting in Kohima

Nagaland Wushu Association (NWA) held its annual general meeting under the aegis of Nagaland Olympic Association at the resident of its president, New Minister Hill, Kohima on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, NWA president and advisor for CAWD & Taxes Kudecho Khamo emphasised on the need to promote Wushu discipline in the state as wushu is very new in Nagaland and delved on the need to promote the game at grassroot level.


He therefore urged the association and district affiliation executives to work intensively to promote the sports with commitment and dedication.
Admitting that the state lacks facilities and infrastructure in the state, he however, assured that under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, the state government is giving special focus to sports and youths.


He also underscored the need to pool resources to focus on the development of sports infrastructure for the youths, where they can excel. Despite achieving medals in northeast Olympic by Wushu team, he pointed out that it needs to give more effort where the players can shine at national and international level.
In this regard, the advisor called upon the association to work together so that wushu discipline can establish itself a househo

ld name in Nagaland where the association can work with proper system and better facilities to the youths.
“To build sportspersons, we need to focus on grassroots level”, he said and added that with the popularity of the game in the state, the younger generation can take up this sport as a profession.
NWA vice president, Akhozo, in his address said the association have to prepare for bigger platform for the state players to compete at the highest level.


During the meeting, various agendas were discussed where the house decided to approach the schools for introduction of Wushu to focus on grassroot coaching. The house also discussed on the upcoming state level Wushu Championship and decided that with the announcement of NOA for Nagaland Olympics, the later date will be fixed. The association also decided to write to DC and District Sports Council chairman to Kiphire, Niuland and Tseminyu for formation of District Wushu Association. While the house also adopted the NWA Constitution.


A total of 7 representative from district affiliated attended the general meeting on the occasion. It also informed that a state level coaching and judges seminar will be held on Thursday at NOA office Kohima.
