CorrespondentKOHIMA, NOV 3 (NPN)

Advisor school education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Monday called for a renewed public perception of government schools and stressed the need for infrastructure development, administrative reforms, and systemic changes in the education sector.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new building for PM SHRI Government Middle School, L. Khel, Kohima village, which was held at L. Khel Indoor Stadium, Dr. Yhome stated, “We have a perception that only poor students go to government school, and we need to change this mindset.”
Also, underscoring the urgent need for more higher secondary schools in the capital, the advisor encouraged parents to consider government institutions, citing their qualified faculty and steady improvements.
Reflecting on school’s legacy as the village’s second and alma mater to several leaders, Dr. Yhome identified GMS L. Khel as a candidate for upgradation to high school status. He noted the school’s commendable teacher-student ratio of 1:5 and urged staff to actively promote government education to boost enrolment.
The advisor also announced plans to introduce a modernized curriculum incorporating 21st-century skills and textbooks with content relevant to Nagaland, including topics such as the Inner Line Permit (ILP), Article 371(A), and local history.
Giving a report on school building construction, the building committee treasurer Neingusalie Khruomo said construction of the new school building was completed in eight months, despite a two-month delay due to funding issues and challenges in levelling the steep, three-tiered site. He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and appealed for the timely release of remaining government funds to clear pending dues.
The total project cost stood at Rs. 79.2 lakh, with Rs. 52 lakh received so far.
The inauguration began with a dedication prayer by Rev. Keviyiekielie Linyü, Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Head teacher Keneingu Rutsa delivered the welcome address, followed by brief speeches from Lhisemia council chairman Ayie Yhome, and school education director Razouseyi Vese. Students of PM SHRI GMS L. Khel presented a special number to mark the occasion.
