DIMAPUR

The second day of the 34th General Conference of Langpangpkong Kaketshir Mungdang (LKM), held Friday under the theme “Mongjen Mesemshidi (Rekindling Legacy),” featured deliberations on youth, economy and technology, alongside cultural and organisational sessions at T. Sentichuba Amphitheatre, Mongsenyimti.
Gracing the programme as special guest, advisor Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, A. Pangjung Jamir, underscored the importance of purposeful youth engagement and responsible leadership. He urged students to channel their energy towards sustainable livelihoods and selective sports disciplines that offer clear professional prospects. Pangjung noted that sports, when pursued with dedication, could provide viable long-term careers. On technology, Pangjung reminded students that they live in a fast-developing digital world with instant access to global knowledge. He cautioned against misuse of digital tools and excessive mobile gaming, stressing that constructive use of technology was vital for career development. He further advised students to value guidance from elders and parents, and reminded degree holders that while parents had fulfilled their responsibilities, it was now their turn to establish themselves successfully.
Earlier, LKM president Imlinok delivered the presidential address, while greeting messages were conveyed by Ao Kaketshir Mungdang president Lanutoshi Aier, Japukong Kaketshir Mungdang president Angemangyang, and Tzurangkong Kaketshir Mungdang president Pangertoba.
A thematic symposium moderated by Hornbill TV news anchor Imnatula Jamir featured deliberations on “Economic Independence” by K. Temjen Jamir and “Leveraging Technology and AI for a Smarter Future” by Er. L. Lanuwabang. Both speakers emphasised forward-looking thinking among youth to address contemporary challenges.
The two-day conference, which began January 8, brought together 205 delegates representing 19 villages across the Langpangpkong range.
At the inaugural programme, DPDB Mokokchung chairman Tongpang Ozukum lauded LKM students for academic achievements and success in competitive examinations. He raised concerns over rural depopulation and migration, urging students to monitor educational institutions in the region. Tongpang also commended LKM’s clean election campaign initiated nearly a decade ago, describing it as a positive contribution.
Referring to the growing number of Naga public organisations, Tongpang noted that the issue was discussed in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly under matters of urgent public importance.
While no final decision has been taken, he said there was consensus among legislators to spread awareness and wisdom on the matter, particularly among students.
Retired Chief Information Commissioner I. Meyionen Jamir delivered the keynote on the theme “Mongjen Mesemshidi”, stressed the need to revive and strengthen the legacy built by earlier generations. He called for renewed commitment in sports and education, and urged students to foster unity and collective progress.
Explaining the theme, Meyionen elaborated on its literal meaning in the local language and linked it to English terms such as rekindle, restoration, rejuvenation, renewal, revival, and reform. He said rekindling legacy involves carrying forward responsibilities along with past glory and good deeds, while acknowledging the foundations laid by earlier leaders.
Delegates from villages including Kelingmen, Yaongyimti, Changtongya, Chuchuyimlang, Unger, Merangkong, Salulem, Longkong, Akhoya, Kangtsung, Wameken, Yaongyimsen, Chakpa, Asangma, Anaki Yimsen, Anaki Old, Anaki C, and Mongsenyimti attended the conference.
The opening ceremony was presented by Mongsenyimti Students’ Union, with welcome address by Village Council chairman Aosungit Ozüküm.
Greeting messages were also extended by Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang president Tongpangmangyang and Jangpetkong Kaketshir Telungjem Mungdang president Imomanen Tzüdir.
Meanwhile, Langpangpkong Kaketshir Mungdang (LKM) has announced its new team of office bearers for the tenure. The new team will be headed by Tzuwasanen Jamir (Mongsenyimti Kaketshir Telongjem) as president, Merenkumzuk (Changtongya Kaketshir Telongjem) as vice president, Walunir (Salulamang Kaketshir Telongjem) general secretary along with seven other members.
