Nagaland: YSU holds session and general conference at Yachem Village

DIMAPUR

The 67th Session of the Yachem Students’ Union (YSU) cum 4th General Conference concluded on December 20 at Yachem Village under the theme “Bridging the Gap (Shingkung Shenteipü)”, bringing together students, leaders and community members to deliberate on the role of youth in a changing society.
In a press release, YSU media cell informed stated that guest speaker Y Nuklu Phom, PhD, chairman and team leader, LEMSACHENLOK, Longleng, emphasised that bridging the gap begins with identifying real gaps within individuals and society. He outlined stages of social progression from pioneers and implementers to critical thinkers, noting that the choices made by the present generation will shape the future. Using the analogy of a thermometer and thermostat, he stressed balancing external evaluation with internal self-regulation.
Highlighting divisions caused by class, culture, tribe, economic disparity, generational differences and technological barriers, he urged youth to build bridges rather than walls. He further called for continuous learning, skill development, adaptability and character formation, especially in the post-COVID era.
Special guest Dr. M.C. Longai Phom, jt. director (NSACS), DH&FW, in his address, urged students to reflect on the gaps they seek to bridge. He stressed that meaningful change must begin at the individual and household levels before extending to the village and community. He called for coordination between students’ unions and village institutions, effective communication, mutual respect and intergenerational understanding, while encouraging youth to remain rooted in cultural and traditional identity.
In the evening session, Assistant Commandant, VG, Longleng, L.K. Heno Khiamnuingan, challenged youngsters to uphold the principles of hard work, discipline and sacrifice, stating that nothing substantial can be achieved without sacrifice. He encouraged students to channelise their talents with clarity of purpose, perseverance and moral direction.
The concluding session featured a performance by guest artist Pelao Konyak, a song presentation by Changtongya Students’ Union, and a short speech by Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) president, C Sham-e Phom.
