Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) held its 66th general session at the Public Amphitheatre, Pame Tsiidu, Zhavame village, under the theme “Igniting Transformative Change”, reaffirming its commitment to progressive thinking, responsible citizenship, and value-based leadership.
The session began with the unfurling of the union flag by Dr. Roland Lotha, philanthropist and social activist, who graced the occasion as special guest. The event was attended by community leaders, elders, parents, students, and well-wishers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Roland Lotha praised Zhavame as a peaceful and united community, describing it as “a land flowing with milk and honey.” He stressed the need for unity beyond denominational lines and urged the people to stand together as one family. He encouraged students to persevere in their educational pursuits and reminded parents to support their children’s dreams.
Chasii Charles Krocha, Assistant Headmaster, Government High School, Longmatra, Kiphire, attended as guest of honour. In his address, he encouraged students to pursue success through hard work and dedication, regardless of background, and stressed the importance of a conducive study environment.
Zao Krocha, VCC Zhavame, acknowledged the Union’s leadership and expressed appreciation to Dr. Lotha for his presence. He called on the community and students to uphold unity and work collectively for progress.
Delivering the valedictory address, Jonah Domeh, Uwin Coordinator, UNPD, urged students to treat student life as a foundation for future responsibilities. He highlighted cleanliness as a reflection of discipline and advised youth to embrace entrepreneurship, adapt to the digital age, and use technology responsibly. He also called on students to respect elders and urged parents to guide the younger generation with patience.
Outgoing ZSU president Joshua Rhi, in his presidential address, described the general session as a platform for intellectual growth and reaffirmation of student responsibilities. He emphasised discipline, academic pursuit, and moral values, reiterating the Union’s motto: “Serve, Strive, Thrive.” The nomination committee later elected Bunyi Krocha as the new ZSU president.
A highlight of the session was the presentation of Achievers’ and Special Awards. The Union felicitated: Visoupfu Domeh (Top 10 HSLC); Vipune Domeh (Top 20 HSLC); Dr. Dovine Dukru (Ph.D. in “Computational Stimulation and Analysis of Fluid Flow with Variable Flow Specification”); Khruvi Shupao (Forest Guard Examination 2025) and The Best Teacher Award (Deo Theodore Memorial Award) was conferred to Zhen Dukru for her dedication and service.
