In a significant development, members of the Naro clan in Dzülhami village, Phek district, have formally resolved to restore their original identity as the Vero clan.
Historically known as the Vero clan, the group had over time come to be identified as the Naro clan due to certain circumstances. After collective deliberation, 51 households comprising 235 members unanimously declared that they shall henceforth be known and addressed as Vero clan.
The decision reflects a renewed commitment to preserving their ancestral identity, heritage, and lineage. Community leaders described the move as a positive step and reaffirmation of their historical roots.
The declaration was witnessed by representatives from across Phek district and Western Chakhesang areas. Later, Posetso also declared that the Nyekha clan, comprising 21 households and 89 members from Suthozu Nawu, would henceforth be recognised as Vero clan.
Vezokho Vero, pastor of Naga Shisha Hoho Prayer Centre, Kohima, administered the Act of Blessing for the formal declaration.
Speaking on the occasion, Sachopra Vero, (Retd) secretary to Govt of Nagaland, urged the gathering to maintain unity and always put God first in everything. “We need to be honest and truthful in all our dealings with others,” he said.
Zhopra Vero, Kedahge, FGN, Müdosüh, Duvelhü, Vethi Vero, Vekho Vero, Zuvehu Vero, Kuduvotso Vero and others also spoke at the programme.
The programme was chaired by Müdokhrüpra while Sevotso Vero, pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Mokokchung invoked God’s blessing.
