National Fish Farmers’ Day observed at Pungro Town

DIMAPUR

Fishery Union Pungro Sub-division (FUPSD), in collaboration with various district departments, observed National Fish Farmers’ Day cum Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) training at Pungro Town on July 10.
Resource persons included Nzanthung T Yanthan, DFO Kiphire; Senti Longchar, DHO Kiphire; Omega, Inspector SDAO Pungro; and Yochong, Sr. VFA Pungro. They shared insights on integrated farming, combining crop production, livestock rearing, and aquaculture to boost productivity and rural livelihoods.
Officials also highlighted modern agricultural methods, soil health, and water conservation. The event aimed to strengthen ties between fish farmers, agri-experts, and government departments.
Meanwhile, FUPSD also marked the national occasion at Pungro HQ, paying tribute to aquaculture pioneers Prof. Dr. Hiralal Chaudhury and Dr. K.H. Alikunhi, whose work laid the foundation for induced breeding of major carps in India.
H. Hanso, general secretary FUPSD, chaired the programme, while Azikiu Abraham, president FUPSD, delivered the keynote address.
