National Lok Adalat settles 193 cases

A total of 193 cases and disputes were settled with a total settlement of Rs. 3,25,62,302 at the 4th quarterly National Lok Adalat (NLA) undertaken by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authorities (NSLSA) on December 9.


A press release by PRA, NSLSA informed that out of the 11 Lok Adalat sitting constituted in the 11 district court premises, 914 cases/ disputes were listed for compromise settlement which included cases in pending stage as well as in pre-litigation stage mostly bank recovery, loan recovery and other cases viz. public utility i.e Telephone Bills.


Judges of Gauhati High Court, Justice Michael Zothankhuma and Justice Devashis Barauh along with Ajongba Imchen, Registrar, Gauhati High court Kohima Bench and Atoka Achumi, Asst. Registrar, Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench and Officers of the Registry Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench attended the NLA proceeding held at District Court Complex Kohima.


In Kohima, the presiding officers were Duvelu Vero, principal district and sessions judge and chairman Kohima DLSA and Wokono Yhoshii, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, Kohima DLSA. 28 cases were settled with a total settlement amount of Rs. 10,98,960 in Kohima. Mokokchung DLSA conducted NLA at District Court. Julian Sitlhou, secretary, Mokokchung DLSA was the presiding officer. Altogether 25 pre- litigation cases were taken up and settled with a total settlement of Rs. 13,53,109.
In Wokha, out of 15 cases, 14 cases were disposed of with a total settlement amount of Rs.12,60,636.


Phek DLSA took up 13 matters of pre-litigation bank recovery cases of SBI and NStCB and disposed of with a settlement amount of Rs.13,20,966.
Tuensang DLSA took up five cases were taken and disposed of with a total settlement of Rs.91,9,534.


In Dimapur, the NLA was held at Dimapur where 65 cases were taken up and disposed with total settlement amount of Rs. 2,05,28,106. Longleng DLSA took up 9 cases and 8 were disposed with a total settlement of Rs. 168,680. Mon DLSA settled a total amount of Rs 10,13,000 while Zunheboto DLSA took up 18 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and disposed of with the total settlement of Rs. 29,61,707. Kiphire DLSA conducted the NLA where 11 bank loan recovery cases were taken up however no settlement was made.
