National Lok Adalat (NLA) benches constituted across the state took up 300 cases and disposed off a total of 203 cases, cases mostly at their pre-litigative stages.
A press release from Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) reported that in this particular National Lok Adalat, some of the districts, after due approval from the central authority, observed NLA sittings prior to the scheduled date for the sake of convenience on account of the fact that the fixed date fell on Sunday.
The total settlement amount involved in the disposed off cases was Rs. 80,40,489/- (Rupees eighty lakhs forty thousand four hundred eighty nine) only.
Altogether, 10 lok adalat sitting benches were constituted in ten districts held within the premises of the district court buildings.
The cases referred and taken up for settlement dealt with bank recovery cases, traffic related matters, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases and also a few cases of petty criminal cases already pending before subordinate courts.
The Lok Adalat was able to take up and dispose of a significant number of cases during the proceedings with the efforts put in by the officials of the District Legal Services Authorities and sincere cooperation from the officials of commercial banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, Traffic Police and amenable participation by the litigants and debating parties.
Earlier, as part of the pre-lok adalat preparations, District Legal Services Authorities organised awareness programmes to apprise everyone concerned so that the parties were informed and were present for settlement on the National Lok Adalat day.
Judicial officers presided over the lok adalat proceedings and panel lawyers served as conciliators along with Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) who acted as members. The proceedings were also conducted in local dialects.
