11 Lok Adalat (people’s court) sitting benches have been constituted in all the eleven district headquarters organised by the respective District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) on December 9.
In a press release issued by nodal officer for Lok Adalat NSLSA, Nungsang C. Jamir stated that a total of 355 cases were taken up for settlement, of which 69 cases, mostly at pre-litigative stage were disposed off. The total settlement involved in the disposed cases amounted to Rs. 76,09,585/-.
Lok Adalat also witnessed active participation by officials of banks, general insurance companies, public service providers and most importantly amenable appearance by the litigants.
Lok Adalat was held in various district court buildings and proceedings were also conducted in local dialects for convenience of illiterate litigants and also without stressing too much on legal technicalities.
The National Lok Adalat (NLA) is held bimonthly throughout the country and the respective State Legal Services Authorities serve as the implementing agencies which are statutory bodies constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.
