Three-day national seminar on “crop protection: current trend and future perspectives” organised by department of Plant Pathology, Entomology & Agronomy, SASRD: NU, Medziphema campus concluded on November 18.
The valedictory programme was graced by principal secretary Agriculture & APC, T Imkonglemba Ao, as chief guest and director of agriculture, Helie Rupre-o and director of horticulture, Dr. R. E. Lotha, as special guests.
A press release by NU: SASRD associate professor and national seminar publicity communication convener, Dr. J. Longkumer, stated that chief guest, T Imkonglemba Ao, asserted that national seminar on crop protection was the need of the hour.
He suggested that the recommendations that emerged out of the deliberations should be reflected in the state policies of agri and allied sectors.
Imkonglemba pointed out that Prime Minister’s Look East policy with special emphasis on the north east region was a great incentive, particularly with the Nagaland Vision 2030 document.
He exhorted the scientists to do research and development in the state which would benefit not only the scientist community but also the farming community.
The special guests also gave short speeches and on behalf of the farmers Nihokhu Chophy gave the feedback.
Dr. C P Robert, senior scientist & head, ICAR KVK, CARD, Pathanamthitta, Kerela, gave the feedback on behalf of the delegates.
The programme was chaired by Professor Akali Sema and welcome address delivered by dean, SASRD: NU, Professor A K Makar while organizing secretary, National Seminar, Dr. Sushanta Banik, presented the seminar report.
Chief guest also gave away awards for best poster to Pezangulie Chakruno, PhD scholar, plant pathology, SASRD: NU and Rokozeno, PhD scholar of Entomology, AAU, Jorhat, Assam.
The award for best oral presenter was given to Chandrika Buragohain, plant pathology, AAU, Jorhat, Assam, Sandip Patra, Entomology, AAU, Jorhat, Assam and Moakala Changkija, SASRD: NU in the discipline of agronomy. Invocation was said by Dr. Rokoneituo Nakhro and vote of thanks was delivered by co-organizing secretary, national seminar, Dr. Imtinaro L.
Farmers’ from Medziphema, Socunoma, Mezoma, Sirhima and Pherima villages interacted with scientists from disciplines of plant pathology, entomology, agronomy, horticulture and livestock production and management.
